Roger Lemaire – Belgium

Chief Instructor ROBA – Goshin Jutsu | Founder Kotodama Ryu Kenjutsu School

EKF‑Certified Teacher for Kenjutsu / Iaijutsu

Sensei Roger Lemaire – a highly experienced and multidisciplinary instructor with more than five decades of dedication to Aikido, Goshin Jutsu, Kobudo and traditional Japanese sword arts.

Roger began his training in 1974 in Aikido under Eddy Wolput Sensei (7th Dan), later expanding his practice with Wing Chun, Shotokan Karate, close‑combat systems, and Japanese weapons through Aiki‑ken and Aiki‑jo. His sword journey led him to Batto Jutsu (Shinkendo) and eventually to Iaido, Jodo and Kendo, training under Eric Vanderheyden Sensei (ABKF) and receiving certification from Shizufumi Ishido Sensei, Hanshi 8th Dan.

Since 1998, he has been chairman and chief instructor of ROBA vzw, teaching Goshin Jutsu with an open, integrated approach, supported technically by Hanshi Hubert Laenen (9th Dan) in Okinawa Motobu‑Ryu Kyu Goshin Jutsu.

In 2000, Roger founded Kotodama Ryu, a traditional Koryu‑inspired school focusing on Goshin Ken Jutsu, Iaido, Kenjutsu, Jo‑Jutsu, Tanjo Jutsu, Niten Ryu, and recently Mitsurugi‑Do / O‑Getsu Ryu under Fumio Matsuki Sensei, known for sword choreography in The Last Samurai and Shogun.

ROBA–Kotodama Ryu emphasizes Sen no Sen, Zanshin and Mushin, working from the center, breaking structure, maintaining correct distance and timing, and applying continuous control — equally in empty‑hand techniques as in Kobudo and sword work.
