Jeffrey Debruyne – Belgium

Sei Shihan – 4th Dan Koryu Karate Jutsu Jissen Ryu

Instructor – Shaolin Dojo vzw

Born in 1979, Jeffrey began his martial arts journey at the age of nine with Judo, building a foundation of discipline and body control. After his studies he continued this path through Kickboxing and Jujutsu, earning his 2nd Dan in the latter. His journey led him through Shotokan Karate and later Karate Jutsu, where he experienced firsthand how striking and grappling principles naturally support one another.

Life and work brought several relocations, forcing Jeffrey to restart multiple times — often again as a white belt. But that persistence became his hallmark: a continuous search for a martial art that felt complete, balanced and authentic.

That search led him, more than 10 years ago, to Koryu Karate Jutsu Jissen Ryu in Heist‑op‑den‑Berg. Under the guidance of Hanshi Hubert, everything finally clicked:

the synergy between striking, locking, throwing, biomechanics and kata‑based application — the complete art he had always been looking for.

Step by step, Jeffrey grew through every grade, from beginner to 4th Dan, and was recognized as Sei Shihan within our dojo. Today he is a valued instructor, bringing clarity, discipline and humility to every class. His path is a living example of what Koryu truly represents:

lifelong study, resilience, and a genuine passion for martial arts.
