The Dragon Returns – Full Force

Why We Do This
Guardians of Ryukyu is more than an event – it is a mission.
Our goal has always been to honor the spirit, culture and traditions of Okinawa, the birthplace of all karate styles, and to share this heritage with the world. Through our deep and longstanding connection with the island, we feel a responsibility to preserve the values of Ryukyu Budo: respect, openness, humility, and a genuine passion for learning.
Every edition of Guardians of Ryukyu is built on these principles. We bring together practitioners from different styles, federations and backgrounds, united by one shared belief: martial arts grow stronger when knowledge is exchanged openly, without barriers or ego.
A Journey Marked by Milestones
In 2020, just before the global Covid lockdown, we experienced an unforgettable high point with The Okinawa Grandmasters Edition.
For the first time ever, four highly respected Okinawan Grandmasters travelled to Belgium to teach, inspire and promote karate as part of the Olympic cultural programme. Over 200 participants from 17 countries joined us – a historic moment that left a lasting imprint on our community.
Then the world changed.
For several years, global uncertainty kept large events on hold. It wasn’t until 2025 that we felt ready to reignite the flame. With The Rebirth Edition, we returned in a modest yet meaningful way: a one‑day seminar, small in scale but powerful in spirit. We were simply grateful to embrace our dragon again.
2026 – The Dragon Returns: Full Force
This year marks the true resurgence of our full experience.
Guardians of Ryukyu: The Dragon Returns – Full Force brings back everything that defines our seminar – the depth, the intensity, the community, the cultural bridge between Belgium and Okinawa.
Our 2026 program includes:
Friday, 15 May 2026 – Evening
Guardians of Ryukyu Kyusho Jutsu Seminar
A focused and highly technical session introducing and refining vital-point principles within traditional Okinawan martial arts.
Saturday, 16 May 2026 – All Day
Main Guardians of Ryukyu Gasshuku
Our central event: a full day of training guided by internationally respected sensei.
From midday onward, we also welcome our younger participants for the Guardians of Ryukyu Junior Event, ensuring the next generation grows with authentic values.
Participants may register for our Guardians of Ryukyu Lunch/Dinner catering service – a moment to relax, connect and recharge.
Sunday, 17 May 2026 – Morning
Free Sunday Guardians of Ryukyu Seminar
A gift to all who joined us on Friday or Saturday.
A final moment of learning, friendship and gratitude before closing this year’s edition.
Who Guides You
For 2026 we proudly welcome 10 internationally respected sensei, representing 5 different countries. Among them are:
- former world champions in Kata
- multiple international champions from various disciplines
- teachers who have dedicated their lives to transmitting the authentic roots of Okinawan martial arts
But above all, they share one essential quality:
A deep passion for an open, free and respectful martial arts culture, true to the traditions of the Ryukyu islands.
Our Promise
Guardians of Ryukyu is not just a seminar. It is a bridge between cultures, a celebration of heritage, and a place where martial artists of all backgrounds can grow together.
